Building Resilience at Leslie’s Snacks, Equipping Leaders to Support Mental Health in the Workplace

Updated: 2 days ago

On November 7-8, PVP had the opportunity to conduct an in-house training session for the supervisors and managers at Leslie - Snack Food, Leslie - Food Service (Minute Burger), and Leslie - Corporate Support, titled “Managing Employee Mental Health and Well-being.” The two-half day session, led by Dr. Niño Jose Mateo, RPsy, RGC, CTRTC, was designed to provide leaders with effective strategies to support employee mental health and create a healthier workplace environment. This training also highlighted the importance of self-care for leaders, a key aspect often overlooked in managing team well-being.

Dr. Niño guided participants through the essentials of mental health in the workplace, from understanding common challenges employees may face to practical approaches for addressing them. Supervisors and managers were equipped with methods for recognizing signs of stress, burnout, and other mental health challenges. Through this, they learned how to identify situations where employees may need additional support and explored effective ways to initiate helpful conversations.

The training also emphasized the role of supervisors in fostering a positive and supportive workplace. Dr. Niño discussed best practices for promoting mental health in day-to-day interactions and explored techniques that allow leaders to assess and respond to the mental health needs of their team members. Dr. Niño also introduced accessible ways to guide employees toward resources and referrals when necessary, emphasizing the value of a compassionate and proactive approach.

A key takeaway from the session that we think is significant was the importance of self-care for leaders. Dr. Niño guided participants in understanding how their well-being directly affects their ability to support others. The training offered straightforward self-care practices that managers can integrate into their routines, helping them build the resilience necessary to lead effectively.

We at PVP are grateful to Leslie Corporation for prioritizing the mental well-being of their team. Through this training, Leslie’s is taking meaningful steps toward fostering a healthier, more supportive workplace. PVP looks forward to continuing our partnership and providing more programs that contribute to positive, resilient work environments.
