Premier Value Provider (PVP) conducted its first-ever training on Data Visualization and Storytelling online. The 3-day training held on September 14-16, 2021, was facilitated by Dr. Marshall Valencia who is a social and organizational psychologist with 20 years of professional experience as an HR and organizational consultant, trainer, and a social scientist. He is also the Director for Research and Analytics of PVP and a faculty member in the graduate program of the Psychology Department of the University of the Philippines.
The objective of this training is to transform data and insights into impressive and effectual visualizations using PowerBI, a tool created by Microsoft for better data experience. The participants were taught how to create functional data dashboards using PowerBI, and effectively combine data, visualization, and narratives in creating data stories.
Dr. Valencia edified the importance of creating an effective data visualization, and why there should be a story in every data presented. By doing so, data dumping will be avoided. This will create a much more powerful and effective presentation for the audience.
The training was a success based on the answers of the participants on the survey we conducted after the 3-day training. Ninety two percent (92%) of the participants rated the training as very good to excellent.
