HR departments play a critical role in nurturing employee growth through effective training and development programs. They also take charge of managing legal matters related to employees, working to prevent costly issues that may arise from labor disputes. By fulfilling these responsibilities, HR departments contribute to cost savings for organizations by avoiding potential expenses. However, despite their significant contributions, many HR departments are unfairly stigmatized as "cost centers" or financial burdens to the company. This perception emerges because their direct impact on the bottom line may not always be immediately apparent. Such unfair treatment presents challenges for HR professionals. So, how can we change this perception and enhance the business's profitability? The answer lies in harnessing the power of data analytics.

On May 15 and 16, we conducted a comprehensive Master Class training on HR Analytics, led by our esteemed president, Dr. Marshall Valencia. The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively analyze HR data, derive actionable insights, and demonstrate its impact on achieving business objectives.

The training provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of HR Analytics, covering various aspects such as fundamental concepts, critical success factors, and the composition of an effective HR Analytics team. The importance of HR Analytics was emphasized by exploring three key reasons: human tendency for poor decisions, the shift towards valuing intangible assets, and the need to demonstrate ROI in employee investments. This highlighted the necessity of a data-driven approach in HR decision-making.

The training also covered the definition of HR Analytics and its different levels. An eight-step model for implementation was also introduced, where special emphasis was placed on initial steps like framing business questions and constructing hypotheses to establish a solid foundation for doing analytics. Through engaging case studies, participants gained a deeper understanding of each step's role in achieving actionable insights.

And to enhance the participants’ practical skills, they were introduced to two software tools: Jamovi and Power BI. Jamovi is a statistical data tool that allowed participants to explore a range of techniques to analyze data, including T-Test and ANOVA for comparing variables, as well as correlation analysis and linear/logistic regression for predictive analytics. Meanwhile, Power BI is a data visualization software that enabled participants to experiment with different visual tools, create their own dashboards, and receive feedback from Dr. Valencia for further improvement.

Lastly, the training included application of HR Analytics to real-life scenarios. Participants learned to apply predictive analytics to assess the impact and ROI of interventions such as training programs, as well as predicting employee turnover. Using Jamovi, they evaluated the impact of work-life balance programs on stress, CSR on employees' organizational commitment, and the effectiveness of specific training programs. They also practiced using frequency tables to explore regional differences in staff turnover and employed logistic regression to predict individual turnover.

Overall, the training program provided participants with the tools and knowledge to unlock the strategic value of HR. Through a comprehensive and practical learning experience, participants gained a strong foundation in HR Analytics. It is our hope that the training program has truly transformed the way HR is viewed, and that participants now recognize its significance in driving organizational success.
