June 17, 2025 marked a significant day for the team at Interasia Outsource Inc. (IOI) as they dove headfirst into one of the most pressing topics of our time—digital literacy. In partnership with PVP, IOI took a proactive step in safeguarding their people, systems, and online interactions through our specialized training: “Digital Literacy for Filipinos: Fighting Mis-/Disinformation, Empowering the Self in Cyberspace,” led by the sharp and engaging Mr. John Reczon Calay.

The Digital Context: Why It Matters Now More Than Ever
As of early 2025, the Philippines boasted 97.5 million internet users—a staggering 83.8% of the population—according to a Data Reportal report. With 90.8 million social media identities, Filipinos are more connected than ever before. But while this digital boom opens doors to information and communication, it also brings serious challenges: cybersecurity risks, rampant misinformation, and a growing mental health toll from online spaces.
The old mantra, “Think before you click,” has never been more relevant.

Training Goals: Building a Digitally Literate Workforce
The training session aimed to go beyond the technical and into the practical and ethical dimensions of online engagement. It wasn’t just about knowing how to use digital platforms—but knowing how to use them wisely, safely, and responsibly.
Participants were guided through five key modules:
I. The Philippine Digital Landscape
Participants gained a contextual understanding of how the Philippines has evolved from a text-loving nation to a global social media powerhouse. With the help of updated stats and trends, they explored how digital infrastructure and mobile connectivity shape our everyday lives.
II. What Is Digital Literacy?
Mr. Calay broke down complex terms like digital literacy, media literacy, and cybersecurity in a clear and relatable manner. Topics like data protection, digital footprints, and personal responsibility in the online space took center stage.
III. Challenges and Threats
This segment hit close to home for many. The training addressed:
The digital divide and why access still isn’t equal.
The influence of algorithms on what we see online.
The effects of social media on mental health, and the growing concern of cyberbullying and online harassment.
IV. Responsible Digital Citizenship
What does it mean to be a good citizen of the digital world? This module explored:
Critical thinking in the age of clickbait
Ethical online behavior, especially in high-stakes platforms like X, TikTok, and LinkedIn
Respecting others’ privacy—and knowing your rights
V. Call to Action
The session wrapped up by challenging participants to become agents of change: to carry forward what they’ve learned, raise awareness, and help build a workplace (and society) that values digital responsibility and protection.

What IOI Team Members Loved Most
We’re proud to say this wasn’t your typical training. Here’s what IOI participants said stood out the most:
